ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR SELF PORTRAIT

1. Adobe Illustrator Self Portrait

This self-portrait portrays myself as a cat, which has been done deliberately in order to present my personality and how I would like to be perceived, as well as paying homage to the works of Louis Wain – namely, his “Blue Cat” (1932) painting – which are inspirations for my own art. The style that I have decided to use for this image is a comic-like style with bold lines, since it fits with the vector features present in Adobe Illustrator and also fits with the artstyle that I usually choose for cartoon illustrations. The bright and cheerful colours have been selected to present the joy that cats bring to the world, and to show a sense of mischief. The typeface that I have selected is bold and typewriter-like due to the vivd style that I was trying to achieve. This illustration is meant to present my influences as an artist, as well as show common themes that tend to appear in my drawings (cats, sweet food, bright colour palettes).

2. Adobe Illustrator Self Portrait

Inspired by the style of Pariwat Anantachina’s “The L_st Album” (2021), this self-portrait represents the past and present versions of myself, as well as the environment that shaped me to be the person that I am. The reason behind this being a portrait created in Adobe Illustrator is that I wanted to emulate the collage medium, but digitally, therefore the masking feature helped me achieve that. The main photo shows me as an infant and my dad; behind us there is a painting which has been painted for me by a family member, therefore presenting the first exposure that I had to art or design in general. The photographs of locations and maps on this image are all sourced from Mechelinki, where I grew up and started my journey as an artist. The sea holly photographs placed around as a border are also a reference to this place. Therefore, this piece represents my early beginnings as an artist, compared to now.
