ADOBE PHOTOSHOP SELF PORTRAIT

1. Adobe Photoshop Self Portrait

This self-portrait is supposed to present the overly-calm aspect of my personality, and I have achieved this by using the imagery of being underwater in an ocean with calm waves. In order to portray this sentiment, I have decided to use varying shades of blue and overlaying them on top of a photograph where I have my eyes closed. The grain filters and several additional adjustments have been added to the photograph to convey a sense of peacefulness and quiet, as opposed to my other art works which use bold colours and have a clear quality to them. The text which covers the left side of my face follows the shape of a wave, as well as additionally being handwritten rather than selected from a typeface which already is in existence. This decision has been made in order to make the self-portrait feel handmade and authentic to my own handwriting. This self-portrait also incorporates elements of small illustrations in order to pay homage to the fact that I am aspiring to become an illustrator.

2. Adobe Photoshop Self Portrait

This self-portrait presents a photograph of me with the head removed and laying on the ground, still. This imagery is a reference to the phenomenon of dolls’ heads being removed, which creates a simultaneous feeling of macabre and light-hearted humour. The reasoning behind me taking inspiration from this phenomenon is that fashion dolls in particular have greatly influenced my art style and the themes present in my art in most parts of my journey as an artist. Furthermore, I wanted to create a stark contrast between the dark humour of the head being cut off, and the pink, nostalgic overlay which envelops the entire photograph. Via using Photoshop, I have also tried to achieve the effect of elements being painted on, or not fully photo-realistic in order to make the contrast between the forementioned elements more harmonious. The pink and purple tones are supposed to symbolize a sense of romanticization of the past and the glasses having fallen off the head are meant to fit with the dark humour.
